When it comes to family friendly resorts Orlando, it can be hard to know which is the perfect fit. Our family is always on the hunt for great destinations in the Sunshine state. When we were invited to experience Cabana Bay Beach Resort, we couldn’t resist. Whether it’s the retro vibes, the quick access to Universal Orlando Resort, or the epic amenities, there is plenty to keep you coming back again and again.
Although we were invited as guests of Cabana Bay Beach Resort, all opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
What sets Cabana Bay immediately apart from the rest of Florida’s family friendly resorts is it’s Mid Century modern design. Pops of color are everywhere in primary and pastels shades, and even the furnishings and signage are true to the 1950s and 60s aesthetic. It was so fun canvasing the resort and pointing out to the kids all the fun throw back elements. What better way to bring multigenerational families together then to transport our kids back in time to what a Florida beach resort would have looked like in the 50s and 60s.
Good Old Fashioned Fun
Cabana Bay Beach Resort is packed with fun for the entire family from it’s two distinct pool decks to the Galaxy Bowl and Game-o-Rama. Upon check in I was told one of the most impressive aspects of the resort was the Jack Lalanne fitness center, which is not only one of the largest resort fitness centers I’ve been in, it also serves as a museum for one of the most iconic fitness and health pioneers of the the 50’s and beyond.
Our kids enjoyed swimming in the massive pools and it was a thrill to see them sliding down and out from under the giant Diving Platform themed slide that serves as the main pool’s centerpiece. When they were ready for a change of scenery, we relaxed in the lazy river which wound its way around the second pool deck. Additional family friendly resort amenities included pool deck activities, cabanas for rent, and character appearances.
Your VIP Pass to All the Action
Of course it wouldn’t be a visit to Orlando, without a trip to Universal Orlando Resort. This was our kids first visit to Universal. They were beyond excited to visit the parks, and we were so happy to take advantage of the early access we received from staying at a Universal Orlando Hotel. Staying on property gets you closer to the action. No need to pay for additional parking, shuttles are always lined up at the resorts waiting to drop you off at the entrance to the parks. If you are headed to Volcano Bay, Cabana Bay has even sweeter access, with a backdoor entrance you can walk straight in and bypass the crowds.
Our Favorites Spots in
Universal Orlando Resort
Universal Studios Florida
With our early park admission access we headed straight to The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Starting in Universal Studios Florida, we made or way to the secret entrance of Diagon Alley and used our Express Passes for quicker access to Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts. After our escape we made sure to grab some Butter Beer and dodge the fire breathing dragon, then headed to King’s Cross Station to hop on Hogwart’s Express.
Universal’s Islands of Adventure
Thanks to our park to park pass we crossed straight over to Universal’s Islands of Adventure and jumped off at Hogsmeade, the second half of The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Our girls especially enjoyed Camp Jurassic, an interactive playground that even Mom and Dad can play in. I felt like a kid again climbing through the maze of nets, sliding through the trees, and exploring hidden caves. At this point of the day, I took the three year old to enjoy some of the toddler friendly rides, while my husband took our nine year old to enjoy a few more thrilling attractions. London and I had a blast experiencing all the attractions at Seuss Landing, including the Caro-Seuss-el and The High in the Sky Seuss Trolley Train Ride.
On our second and final day we decided to cool off at Volcano Bay. This waterpark is seriously the most sophisticated theme park I’ve every visited. Upon entry you’re given a TapuTapu bracelet which allows you to virtually wait in line. How refreshing! We were highly entertained watching the kids run wild in Runamukka Reef, and they were always within sight allowing us to relax for a moment while they enjoyed the kid friendly action.
Our favorite attraction at Volcano Bay was Krakatau Aqua Coaster, an actual water roller coaster! We were jet propelled around a massive water slide, and through the volcano at the center of the theme park. Thanks to child swap, both parents a chance to enjoy the action even though our three year old was a bit small to ride. When we weren’t riding, we cooled off in the Kopiko Wai Winding River, or reclined by Waturi Beach. It was a thrilling day that really brought our imagination to life.
Our visit to Cabana Bay Beach Resort and Universal Orlando Resort was truly a magical family getaway. I know our family will be talking about it for years to come. We look forward to returning soon and exploring some of the attractions we couldn’t make it to this visit. As a Florida resident, there has never been a better time to visit. There are tons of great deals available online. Be sure to check out Cabana Bay Beach Resort’s Florida Resident rates for some great deals.
I look forward to seeing your adventures at Universal Orlando Resort and the Universal Orlando Hotels.
Enjoy the Journey!
