Gypsy Kitchen | Atlanta Foodie Find
Paella at Gypsy Kitchen

A few weeks ago I headed on a little girls trip to Atlanta with my mom. I was there for a weekend workshop with famed LA hosting coach Marki Costello which was intense and amazing. My mom came along as my road warrior buddy for the ride and to hang out with during my off time. Atlanta has evolved into quite the foodie destination as of late. I observe many of my Jacksonville food industry friends post on social media about their research trips to “Hotlanta” all the time. I was pleased to have the opportunity to do a little food exploration for myself. My journey led me to Gypsy Kitchen in Buckhead where the flavors we encountered were out of control!

Gypsy Kitchen’s concept is a modern, bold, combination of Spanish and Moroccan style flavors. You’ll find small plates in addition to full sized entrees, fresh ingredients, and robust dishes packed with bold spices and tons of color. The atmosphere caters to a sophisticated taste but keeps it casual enough that you won’t feel underdressed if you show up in denim. Colorful tiles, and cool metals are accented by warm rustic wood keeping the dining experience warm and rich. The crowd ranged in age from hip millennials packing out the balcony bar to professional executives dropping in for an after work drink. Then there were your girls night out crew, and the date night diners rounding out the scene. Gypsy Kitchen resides in an upscale mall on the second story. Valet is available and can be validated by the restaurant if you remember to ask, or park in the garage if you don’t mind a little stroll.

Snacks and Things

Toast at Gypsy Kitchen
On the menu:
Tomato Fresco: Garlic, Olive Oil, Sea Salt
We started with this tasty toast. Similar to a bruschetta but unique in itself. The bread was toasty and dense. The spread was executed perfectly in it’s simplicity and freshness. A great way to start the meal and awaken the palate.

Mocktail Please

Off the menu:
Tasty Mock-tail!
Gypsy Kitchen has a great cocktail menu. However, I was pregnant at the time of this meal, so I requested our server to have the bar whip up a Mock-tail for me. If you aren’t familiar with the term, it’s basically a virgin drink. It’s just a fancy way of saying I want something special, hold the alcohol. I was impressed with this little number. I didn’t get the name but it was a combo of orange and lemon juice with ginger beer I believe. It went down smooth and begged for another.
Little Gem Salad at Gypsy Kitchen in Atlanta
On the menu:
Little Gem Salad: Marcona Almonds, Cabrales Blue, Dates, Almond Vinaigerette
This salad was delicate, sweet, and had amazing texture. The contrast of flavors between the mild almond, sweet date, and bite of the blue cheese had tons of wow factor! I would go back to Atlanta just for this salad.

Main Course
Beef Tenderloin and Paella at Gypsy Kitchen in Atlanta
On the menu:
Beef Tenderloin Tips, and “Paella” Fried Rice
I could say so much about these two dishes. My mom ordered the Beef and it was served up in  a skillet adding to the experience of the setting. So tender and full of flavor it was divine! I ordered the Paella and this was a first for me. So yummy! The shrimp was perfect and the egg on top added a richness that took it to a whole new level.

Almond Cake at Gypsy Kitchen in Atlanta
On the menu:
Almond Cake with Cinnamon Ice-cream
The perfect ending to our meal was this tasty Almond cake topped with a crunchy crumble and cinnamon ice-cream. The citrus was an unexpected accent and added just the right amount of acidity to the dessert.
On top of the amazing meal, the service was top notch. Visit Gypsy Kitchen the next time you are in or near Atlanta. From concept, to atmosphere, to each bold dish it’s a new favorite I can’t wait to experience again.
Until then…
Enjoy the Journey!
