Hydrating Hair Care Edit

Prose Haircare

The change of seasons can be murder on your hair. Just when I think I have my routine down, the muggy Florida weather takes a turn, or I travel to a new climate, and my frizz is back to square one. Add in color treating and a dash of aging and I’m left scrambling for a new routine that will keep my locks smooth, silky, youthful, and lustrous. Recently I decided it was time to try out some new hair care lines and see how they measured up against each other. Learn the results in my first hair care edit.

Several of the products listed below were provided to me complimentary for the sake of this review. All opinions posted in this blog are 100% my own.

The Hunt for Hair Care – My Hair & Habits

Everyone’s hair is unique, therefore different products will respond uniquely to each individual. I have a lot of hair so it is generally categorized as thick, however the strands are thin and generally smooth. I have a natural bend to my hair which results in it needing some kind of styling, either blown out, flat ironed, or curled with hot rollers. I have been color treating my hair for most of my adult life and I also do balayage highlights. I try not to wash my hair every day so I don’t dry my hair out too much. Products I generally use on my hair are smoothers, mousse, and hair spray. I don’t like products with harsh sulfates or chemicals and I’m fragrance sensitive so I avoid strong scents.

Redken

Products – All Soft Shampoo & Conditioner

Rating – 4 out of 5 Stars

Wow Factor  – Argan Oil helps create softer, silkier locks.

Price Point – $7-$13 per product

Thoughts – The Redken All Soft products are my staple products that have worked consistently for me for several years now. I love the fragrance and the formula. My hair responds well in almost every season with Redken All Soft, and I love the smoothing serum as well. If you have hair that tends to get unmanageable and frizzy, this is one to try. The only downside is the presence of sulfates which I typically try to avoid. In this case, it doesn’t seem to dry out my hair at all.

Tip – A few times a year Ulta runs their back bar sale for $15 per product. I use this opportunity to stock up on my All Soft products.

Chi Moroccan Oil Haircare

CHI

Product – Argan Oil Plus Moringa Oil Shampoo, Conditioner, Rejuvenating Masque & Smoothing Serum

Rating – 3 out of 5 stars

Wow Factor  – The main selling point of the Chi Argan Oil Plus Moringa Oil are the ingredients in the name. Argan oil has been buzzing in the cosmetology industry for several years now for its ability to hydrate and smooth hair. Moringa Oil, like argan oil is also known for its hydrating qualities in addition to nutrients that make this combination a superfood cocktail for your locks.

Price Point – $17-$25 per product

Thoughts – I’m of fan of Chi products. Biosilk is one of my favorite products for smoothing and shine. When I saw the Moringa Oil products I was curious to see what it offered. My first impression was the fantastic fragrance. It’s not overpowering, but when I have the products on my hair I don’t need any perfume, it’s that fragrant. Both shampoo and conditioner worked great in the shower, the hair masque was especially luxurious and hydrating. When styling my hair with a blowdryer, curlers, or flat iron I felt like the result was ok. I still felt like I was dealing with some frizz. I used the smoothing oil and that seemed to work, but my hair is pretty thirsty and after it absorbed I felt like the frizz returned.

Prose Haircare

Prose

Product – Custom Shampoo, Conditioner, & Masque

Rating – 5 out of 5 stars

Wow Factor  – Prose has a personal approach to hair care. Every batch that goes out is unique to the individual who orders it.

Price Point – Starting at $25 per product

Thoughts – I love the Prose’s super personal concept. They literally create a formula just for you. The diagnostic test they created to discover your unique formula is extremely detailed. The results of this test identify your personal combination. Choose from several fragrances that are light, pleasant, and great for fragrance sensitive folks like myself. I chose the signature Prose aroma, and it’s devine. Prose also includes a hair masque that you use in the shower before you shampoo to open up the follicle. This was new to me, and I really felt  it gave greater results. Both shampoo and conditioner worked great in the shower, and I was able to comb through my hair with just a conditioner and not an additional conditioning masque which surprised me with my thick hair.

Nature Lab Haircare

Nature Lab Tokyo

Product – Perfect Shine Shampoo, Conditioner, & Oil Mist

Rating – 4 our of 5 stars

Wow Factor  – Nature Lab takes Japanese beauty philosophies and the latest technology to bring you hair care with transformative results.

Price Point – $12 to $16 per product

Thoughts – I really like what Naure Lab Tokyo has to offer and the science and philosophy behind it. The fragrance was light and not overwhelming, and the packaging was fun. I got the Perfect Shine formula and am seeing some enhancements on shine, but I think in the future I would opt for the repeair & smoothing formula. Overall it’s a great value for the quality of product that it is, and I love that it’s available on Amazon Prime.

Totalee Haircare

TOTALEE

Products – TOTALEE Wash & Rins

Rating – 4 out of 5 stars

Wow Factor  – Celebrity stylist Lee Rittiner brings you the TOTALEE hair care line. It’s enriched with a cocktail of nutrient rich superfoods and Essential Oxygenated Oil (EOO) which delivers healthier looking hair and longer lasting styles.

Price Point – $19.95 – $24.95 per product

Thoughts – The TOTALEE wash & rins are quality products. I liked the formula and consistency. The cleansing experience was soothing, and I felt the conditioner had a nice consistency to it. The smoothing was mostly effective, but I did feel I could benefit from some of the additional products to aid in keeping my frizz to a minimum.

Kerastase

Products – Kerastase Reflection Bain Chromatique Multi-Protecting

Shampoo, Conditioner, & Creme

Rating – 4 out of 5 stars

Wow Factor  – Luxury Hair Essentials at a Reasonable Price

Price Point – $28 – $48 per product

Thoughts – Kerastase has a great formula and worked well. I think again, in this event, I may have done better with a product that held more smoothing elements. I didn’t care much for the fragrance, but I am sensitive to fragrances, so I’m not sure that others would have the same impression.

Tips – Check out Kerastase diagnostic tool to find the right product for you.

Pureology

Products – Pureology Hydrate Shampoo & Conditioner

Rating – 5 out of 5 stars

Wow Factor  – Serious Colour Care, 100% Sulfate-Free & Vegan

Price Point – $28-$29 per product

Thoughts – Pureology is one of my favorite products on the market. It seriously works. I love the fragrance, and it has a scalp tingling experience during your wash. I always feel like it’s spa day when I’m showering with these products. Bonus, it’s sulfate-free and vegan!
