5 Travel Beauty Tips for Your Next Vacation

No girl wants to start out her vacation with dry skin, red eyes, and messy hair! But whether you go by plane or car, there’s no question traveling takes a toll on your skin and hair. And, things don’t get easier after you arrive either, especially if you spend too much time in the sun and overindulge in a few too many fancy umbrella drinks.

What’s a girl to do? Bringing along all of your holy-grail beauty items is a major risk. They could wind up lost, damaged, or taken by the TSA at the airport. And space in your suitcase is at a premium, too. It can be tempting to just leave it all behind.

But, will you really feel like yourself if you have to spend your entire vacation with a bare face and a sloppy ponytail? Probably not. So, how do you decide what you really need? And, how can you get the most out of what you bring?

Check out our top 5 travel beauty tips to help you keep it all together when you’re on the go!

5 Travel Beauty Tips for Your Next Vacation

Pare Down Your Makeup Routine

Every girl is different. How often will you really wear makeup while you’re on vacation?

If you think you’ll wear at least some makeup every day, pack the basics in neutral colors that will go with everything. If you only plan to wear it for a fancy night’s out, go bold and pack a look that works with the outfit you’re bringing for the occasion. Or, you could take a middle of the road approach and bring a few everyday basics, plus one bold lippie to spice things up for special occasions.

Another smart way to pare down your routine is to stick to Korean-based makeup products that are designed to perform double duty. For example, BB and CC creams can take the place of foundation, moisturizer, and sunscreen… and they’re buildable for extra coverage at night.

K-beauty brands also do a lot of beautiful lip tints that work as blush and bronzers that can stand in as eyeshadow. Choosing multitasking makeup products is a great way to save time and space in your travel beauty routine.

Travel Hair Ideas

Keep Hair Products to a Minimum, Too

If you only bring one haircare product with you, make it conditioner. While just about any shampoo will do the job, the wrong conditioner can leave your hair impossible to manage. If there’s room in your suitcase, go ahead and bring a travel size of the one styling product you use most often, whether it’s anti-frizz serum, mousse, or hairspray.

A wide-tooth comb won’t take up space and it can be used on wet or dry hair. If your hair is long, consider adding a boar bristle travel brush to tame frizz and add shine. A travel-sized can of dry shampoo not only freshens the roots but can also add volume and texture to limp hair.

For accessories, keep things simple and bring bobby pins, extra hair ties, and a stretchy headband.

Before you go, practice a few easy hairstyles that you can pull off with just a few bobby pins, a hair tie, or a headband. A fishtail braid, messy chignon, or a headband cover and tuck-in style can all look super chic and take only a minute or two to style.

You could also throw a pretty scarf in your suitcase to use as a hair wrap when you don’t feel like styling it at all. To save space, leave your hairdryer at home and use the one provided at the hotel. Skip the heat styling tools altogether and sleep with your hair in a bun or braids for pretty waves without any extra effort.

Prioritize Your Skin Care Products

When deciding what to bring and what to leave at home, skincare should always be a priority. Switching things up could disrupt your skin’s balance and lead to breakouts, so bring your cleanser, face lotion, and eye cream at minimum. And, don’t forget your sunscreen!

For body care, it’s ok to buy things like body lotion, shower gel, and soap at your destination or just use whatever the hotel provides unless you have sensitive skin or allergies.

Travel Beauty Treatments

Give Your Skin and Hair Some Extra TLC

The air in planes and cars is very dry, and you don’t want to show up at your destination looking dull and tired. While you’re traveling, give your skin some extra TLC and moisture with a Korean sleep mask. Before you arrive at your destination, remove it with a cleansing wipe, apply a hydrating serum, and use a facial mist for a healthy, radiant glow.

And, consider applying a hydrating hair mask and throwing your hair up in a top knot, too. When you arrive at your hotel, you can shampoo and condition your hair as normal and it will be shinier than it was when you left. As an added bonus, a shower is a great way to refresh and destress after travel, too.

Never Bring Your Full-Sized Products

We all hate the TSA’s 3-ounce rule but don’t be tempted to check your full-sized products with your luggage. You don’t want to risk losing your favorite and expensive beauty products or have them spill and ruin your clothes.

It’s better to decant your beauty essentials into mini travel containers and use Ziplocs or reusable cosmetic bags to keep things organized and protected. For extra insurance, put a strip of tape around the seals of any items that could leak.

And, Finally…

Vacations are all about relaxation, but a little exercise to get your blood pumping will help you get your glow on. Walking to see the sights or doing some yoga in your hotel room will keep your stress levels down and your energy up so you feel and look better overall while you’re on vacation and when you get back home!

I hope these tips from author Nicole McCray help you on your next travels. I couldn’t agree more with her advice!

Until then…

Enjoy the Journey!
