Big Talbot Island Family Bike Trip
Last weekend we did a fun family jaunt to Big Talbot Island, FL to check out their new paved bike trails. After our pilgrimage to the Virginia Creeper Trail last year we have high hopes that munchkin can train to ride part of the trail in the fall… which means we have some miles to get in this year.
Our adventure started here
Big Talbot’s paved trails start at the Big Pine Trail which had a $3 parking fee. This involved traveling via the St. Johns River Ferry which was a special treat for the little one. There has been a lot of effort put into saving the Ferry, so we are always excited to patronize the boat.

Ready to go
She made it about two miles round trip! Way to go!
We didn’t bike the whole path, but if you follow it down you will run into the best trail access to the beach. On the beach you find centuries old cedars which have fallen onto the beach due to erosion. This leaves an erie landscape of deadwood that is fun to photograph, and play on.

We had a great time discovering the beach again as a family. I’ve traveled up to Big Talbot several times in the past, but its great to see the improvements the Fl State Parks Dept has put into place.

Go discover Big Talbot for yourself!

Until then…
Enjoy the Journey!
